Snake Davis - never heard of him? Probably because he's incredibly modest and more likely to hide his light under a bushel, than shout from a mountain top. He's played for 7 of the top 10 artists who have achieved 10 or more number one hits (Official UK Charts). As a session musician he has recorded on more than 400 tracks in recent years probably due to his musical dexterity. Known within the industry and by fans alike as one of the best saxophonists playing in the UK today (and possibly the world) he is not constrained by musical boundaries.
This is a man who knows his craft inside out, a man who can make his saxophone soulful, soft and sing yet jazzy, funky and raunchy within the space of two tunes. What's more, he doesn't play one sax, he plays 5 of them, along with flute, whistle and the hauntigly beautiful Japanese shakuhachi.
The newly released Talking Bird album contains a mix of soulful smooth jazz, afto jazz, jazz ballads and more. A brilliant showcase of his work. Why "Talking Bird" - why not go to one of his performances and ask him? He's suprisingly approachable.
Talking Bird is out now on Skin records (SKIN 5006) distributed by EGEA Distribution and available at the usual outlets including Amazon Uk site, CDBaby, HMV, iTunes, direct from snakedavis.com and many more.
